"Serbs tried to enter Kosovo", Albin Kurti: Vucic's plan to

The Prime Minister of the country, Albin Kurti, within the framework of the Peace Forum, held a discussion on the topic of "creating peace and building a safer world", where he spoke about the dangers that threaten Kosovo.

Kurti mentioned during this discussion Serbia's aggression against Kosovo on September 24, where Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku was killed, for which he said that the terrorist group wanted to cause a larger scale escalation, stressing that it was a pretext for the Serbian army to enter in Kosovo.

"There are not only internal threats to security, but there are also external threats to security and this has to do with the geopolitical time we are going through and on the other hand it has to do with our northern neighbor who does not recognize our country. Less than two months ago we had this attack by a terrorist paramilitary group from Serbia in the north of our country. They have killed a Kosovo policeman and wanted to cause a major escalation so that they can create total chaos as a pretext for the Serbian army to enter Kosovo," he said .

He added that Kosovo has only one alternative, to join the European Union and NATO.

"For the security of our country, we must deal with these groups who want to be like Wagner who want to cause destabilization, and we must focus on the geopolitical situation where we have no alternative because we do not want to have an alternative but the EU and NATO. but then there are countries that think and do something else",  said Kurti.

Asked if the EU can help Kosovo, the Prime Minister of Kosovo stated that he believes in the two commitments that came from there.

"We have two promises, one from Von der Leyen for the enlargement plan, but we also have a promise from Charles Michell that 2030 is the year when the EU and the Western Balkans come together. We have time and we have substance and we must use this to enter the path that is irreversible. Not all countries have the same passion and desire for EU membership," he continued.

Asked about the idea of exchanging territories, he emphasized that the idea is not dead, but there is no possibility of it being implemented.

"Just as Moscow is unhappy with the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Belgrade is not happy with the dissolution of Yugoslavia, which it itself caused. We live in times when this project of exchanging territories has failed, but the idea is not dead and I see this often when I listen to the Serbian president speak publicly.

People who have dreamed of border exchanges find it difficult to let go of nostalgia and participate in democratic and European solutions... despite the failure of the project, the idea is there, but without any possibility of being implemented. The sooner we normalize relations with de jure and de facto recognition, it will be better for everyone" , Kurti concluded.

Kurti also said that because Kosovo does not have visa liberalization, the country has not even received the status of a candidate country for EU membership. The prime minister has declared that none of Serbia's neighboring states will be safe from it until it joins the EU.

"On the one hand, they want to see the division of Kosovo, they would like territorial compensation for their mistakes, but it is not possible. On the other hand, we have witnessed destabilizing efforts in Bosnia, Montenegro and Kosovo, neighbors of Serbia. sometimes also in North Macedonia. Serbia's neighbors, as long as they are not part of the EU, are not safe from Serbia, and this should be taken into account in Brussels. They are angry with the disintegration of Yugoslavia, they thought they could destroy it and take half of it, it didn't turn out that way", said Albin Kurti.
