The ambassador of the United States of America in Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, has said that it is not only the USA that has requests for the extension of the situation in the north of Kosovo.
Hovenier stated that other international countries that are allies of Kosovo have similar requests, and added that he cannot understand the Kosovar institutions that still do not have a proper response in accordance with the requests of friendly countries.
"Also, I would like to point out that it is not just the United States that is asking for this. Some pretty remarkable things have happened this week alone. Since Monday, Prime Minister Kurti has met with the British Secretary for Foreign Affairs, talked with Secretary of State Blinken, talked with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, there were public statements from the Secretary General of NATO, so basically, the configuration of the institutions in which Kosovo intends to join and which we will wholeheartedly support and the friends of Kosovo. The countries and institutions that have played a role in supporting Kosovo in this trajectory are all asking Kosovo, this government, to undertake some specific actions and implement this EU three-point plan. We are surprised", said the American ambassador for Klan Kosova.
He has stated that the letter of eight American senators addressed to the American president, Joe Biden, to express their concern about the tense situation in the north of Kosovo should be a concern.
Hovenier stated that they are also concerned about the fact that until now the Government of Kosovo has not taken as a basis the demands of the USA for the extension of the situation in the north.
" The letter should be cause for concern for all of us, and I think it reflects the views not only of the senators, but also of a number of US officials, including within the Biden administration. We are worried. We are Kosovo's closest partner and the commitment of the American people to Kosovo itself and the people of Kosovo remains as stable as ever. But we have - and not just the US - but we have asked the government of Kosovo to take some specific actions to help defuse the situation in the north to help us move forward for the good of Kosovo and regional stability. And we are concerned that the Government of Kosovo has not responded positively to these requests ", said the American ambassador.
