The former chief negotiator of Kosovo for the dialogue with Serbia, Edita Tahiri, has opposed the holding of an international conference for the North and calls for the people to be against it en masse.
According to her, this is unacceptable and dangerous. The people should oppose it just like the invasion from Serbia.
"An international conference for the north is an unacceptable and dangerous idea! The people must be prepared to oppose it massively, just as we opposed the occupation by Serbia", said Tahiri.
The idea of an international conference on Kosovo has been publicly promoted by Prime Minister Edi Rama, who has said in several media conferences that the time has come for Prime Minister Kurti and President Aleksandër Vucic to shut down until an agreement is reached.
During this week, Rama also formally "submitted" his proposal in Brussels during meetings with high officials, including EC President Michel and High Representative Josep Borell.
The EU emissary in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue Miroslav Lajcak confirmed yesterday that Rama has taken the proposal to Brussels.
"It is Edi Rama's initiative. I must say that he plays an active and constructive role in the whole crisis because he is a good connoisseur of the situation on the ground. Of course, as Prime Minister of Albania, his voice is authoritative enough to be heard. I am in regular contact with him and know how much time and authority he has invested in finding a solution. This is the proposal he came up with. We are in daily contact with the USA and the main European capitals. But of course, the best platform for solving issues is dialogue and we must return to dialogue", said Lajçak.
Asked if such a conference exists as a real option, Lajçak stated that it is too early to speculate about this.
"There was no discussion about the expectations from that conference. It is too early to speculate on that. I want to emphasize once again that I see Rama's role as constructive", stressed Lajçak.
