The Minister in the Government of Kosovo, Nenad Rashič, has told the Serbian media that the situation around the Banjska monastery is still dramatic and that there are no signs that it will calm down soon.
Speaking to Nova.rs, he emphasized that some of the aggressors entered the monastery, while the police called on them with a megaphone to surrender.
As further stated, based on police sources, the attackers are well organized and are suspected to be armed with heavy weapons, bombs and mortars. According to his information, it is still unknown who the attackers are.
" The situation is dramatic. I have spoken several times with Svechla, the Minister of Police. Recently, the news came out that several people were killed in that fight. This morning, the police sent a request for surrender, but there is no communication or contact between the two parties. The police call the attackers with a megaphone, but there is no response from the other side. The situation around the monastery in the village of Banjské is still dramatic, there are no signs that it will calm down soon. For now it's calm ", "Rashič" is quoted as saying to Nova.rs.
He emphasizes that KFOR is working in mediation at the moment, to somehow calm the situation.
" That diplomacy must convince or force people to surrender, because no one is interested in further bloodshed or deterioration of the situation ", Rasic emphasized.
He emphasized to Nova that the attackers are inside and around the monastery itself.
" A number of attackers are inside the monastery itself, while some are around the monastery itself. Right now, no one knows who the attackers are, except that they are a well-armed and organized group. I heard from a source from the MIA that those people had guns and mortars. This armament requires a lot of logistics. This is what we know for now. The most important thing, as (Albin) Kurti and Sveçla tell me, is that we are not for further escalation, but for a peaceful solution to the situation ", says Rashič.
