Elections in winter or spring: Kosovo in total crisis, will Osmani take to the
Kurti-Osmani

Will Vjosa Osmani return to politics?

The political crisis in Kosovo will not pass easily. Since the declaration of independence, early elections have been very common and only this mandate Albin Kurti managed to complete in 4 years.

But it seems that the old days are returning. After the clashes over the constitution of the Parliament, it seems that now the biggest crisis begins. Albin Kurti was unable to form a new government and the opposition also seems to have a very difficult time forming a majority. The signals are that there will be new elections next month. At least this was announced today by Albin Kurti.

" From what we heard yesterday, it seems that everyone is preparing for new elections and for the run-off in the local elections ," Kurti said.

But the prime minister warned of a new crisis in the spring. A new president is due to be elected in April, and Kurti warned that there may not be a consensus, leading the country to another election.

" Because, when we failed to get 61 MPs for a new government, it is hard to imagine that we will easily get 80 MPs in the spring of next year, and we still have four months until the election of the president ," he emphasized.

The President is elected with two-thirds of the votes of the 120 deputies in the Assembly. If the candidate does not receive these votes in the first two rounds, he is elected in the third round with the votes of half of the deputies.

If he is not elected even in the third round, then the Assembly is dissolved and new elections are announced.

Kurti's signals are that even after early elections in the winter, there may not be a solid majority, creating difficulties in electing the president. So it seems that he wants to stay in office until April and then have elections, so that there are not two of them.

But if Kosovo goes to elections in the spring, there is a new element: Vjosa Osmani.

The latter hands over her duties and has every chance of returning to politics. In 2021, she ran on the LVV list through the "Guxo" initiative. Osmani emerged as the most voted MP with over 200 thousand votes, almost 20 thousand more than Albin Kurti. There have been many rumors that she could return to politics and even her relations with Kurti have not been very good in recent times. Let's wait and see, but the signals are that the political chaos in Kosovo has just begun. /Pamphlet
