Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti has stated that the Vetëvendosje Movement has not yet received an invitation from President Vjosa Osmani regarding the mandate to form the new government.
In a press conference, Kurti said that, according to the Constitution, the issue of the mandate for a second term is at the discretion of the president, but added that from recent developments it appears that the country is heading towards new elections.
" We have not received an invitation from President Vjosa Osmani. We know that for the second time the issue of the prime minister-designate for the formation of the government is at her discretion. From what we heard yesterday, it seems that everyone is preparing for new elections and for the run-off in the local elections ," Kurti said.
He added that it is unfortunate that the country could face several elections within a short period of time.
" Perhaps it is unfortunate, in addition to the runoff, that there are two more elections. Both elections in the winter and elections in the spring, because when we failed to get 61 deputies for a new government, then it is impossible to get 80 deputies for the election of the president. We were able to at least avoid these December elections ," he said.
Further mentioning the Law on Government, he emphasized that he can propose the draft budget for 2026, but that does not mean that the work ends there.
