The counting of postal votes from outside Kosovo began on the afternoon of Friday, October 17, at the Counting and Results Center (CRC), announced the spokesperson of the Central Electoral Commission, Valmir Elezi.
Elezi told the media that the commission has approved about 30,000 packages of ballots, and that it has rejected about 4,000 others.
Over 44,000 citizens were eligible to vote by mail from abroad and had 1 month to do so, from September 17 to October 11.
"From the data we have from the voting service, the number of supposed packages with ballots that were approved is 29,636, while 3,977 were rejected. The most obvious reason why these packages were rejected is that in 3,660 cases the registration receipt is missing, a document with unique data that the registered voter receives from the CEC," said Elezi.
Elezi also stressed that the counting and verification of votes within the country concluded on Friday for 30 of the country's 38 municipalities.
Local elections in Kosovo were held on October 12, but in most municipalities there will be a second round next month, as they failed to elect their mayors in the first round.
On election day, 39.58% of over 2 million eligible citizens within the country voted.
According to the CEC, in 21 municipalities the mayor was elected in the first round, while in 17 other municipalities, including Pristina, the second round will be held.
Previous practices have shown that victory in the first round does not guarantee final victory in the second round in cases where there is a runoff.
Of the municipalities with a Serb majority, only in Kllokot will there be a second round, while in the other nine, the Serbian List, the largest party of Kosovo Serbs, which has the support of Belgrade, won. / Taken from REL
