Rama-Kurti clash, Robelli: Both are using the KLA issue politically

Journalist Enver Robelli has analyzed the long-distance clash between the two prime ministers, Edi Rama and Albin Kurti, which had its origins in the pro-KLA protest, which will take place tomorrow in Tirana.

According to Robelli, the KLA and the justice system in The Hague are being used for political capital by both sides. He said that within 10 years, Edi Rama has changed his stance on Vetëvendosje several times, initially supporting it, then attacking it, and even exploiting the issue of national unity for votes.

" Yes, maybe it is used. I am saying in general that people have the right to demonstrate, to protest against something that they feel is unjust. That is, we live in a democratic state like in Kosovo, like in Albania, where the right to assemble and express dissatisfaction is guaranteed. They have the right to express their disagreement. They have expressed it in The Hague, that is, in a state, in the capital of a country that is a member of the EU, they can also express it in Tirana. I think that the reaction of the Vetëvendosje Movement to Prime Minister Edi Rama was unnecessary. It is totally unnecessary. It is the early conflict between them, but I am saying that we should ignore any politician who uses Kosovo according to the interests of daily politics for populist parades. For example, with Mr. Rama, we have within 10 years those political acrobatics that are absurd. In 2015, he comes to Pristina and considers Vetëvendosje a national asset, Mr. Rama used to. That is, in 2015, he comes and reveals Ismail Qemali's dictionary, he gives a patriotic speech where he is boycotted by the political leaders of Kosovo at that time, namely by Prime Minister Isa Mustafa, by Deputy Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi, by the President of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga because at that time he supported the Vetëvendosje Movement and it is a legitimate right, let him support it. There is no problem. In 2018 he comes to Kosovo and gives a speech in parliament where he says we will have a joint president and the Democratic League of Kosovo appears and says this is an inappropriate behavior towards Kosovo on the 10th anniversary of independence. Then in 2025, 10 days ago, two weeks ago, he comes out and says this issue of national unity is a fairy tale , "said Robelli on "Off the Record" with Andrea Dangli, on A2 CNN.

As for Albin Kurti, the journalist said that he even surpasses Edi Rama in terms of populism and the way he uses national issues to deceive citizens.

" As for Albin Kurti, of course he does not give up his populist ways, perhaps even more so than ever. I have emphasized it several times and I repeat it here, I think that his interference in the elections in Albania was a mistake. His totally irresponsible behavior with promises that as soon as Vetëvendosje comes to power, we will make national unity, we will change this article and that article of the constitution and the unity was made was a mistake. That is, it was a misleading statement towards the citizens of Kosovo and I think that it is not good for politicians to misuse patriotism for the interests of their daily politics ," Robelli said.

According to Robelli, we are dealing with a battle between Rama and Kurti to decide who is the "leader" of the Albanians in the Balkans, and this clash is most clearly seen in the division that both have made of the Albanians in North Macedonia.

" And this is a very big problem and these two gentlemen, these two have a big conflict with each other because they are fighting for a kind of primacy among Albanian politics in the region. Each has the ambition to be, so to speak, the boss of the neighborhood and we have the same conflict in Macedonia now, that is, where the Vetëvendosje Movement and Albin Kurti support one political wing and Tirana always openly supports another political wing and I think that this is greatly damaging the politics of Albanians in Macedonia. That is, it is a matter of the egos of the two men who think that before the international community they can present themselves as the only champions of the Albanian nation in the Balkans ", declared journalist Enver Robelli.
