Accused of tax evasion, Shakira is declared innocent; Spain will pay her 60 million euros in compensation

The Supreme Court of Spain has acquitted Colombian singer Shakira of tax evasion charges.

The Supreme Court awarded the Spanish Finance Ministry compensation of more than 60 million euros (an amount it had paid in fines, along with interest), according to a court document cited by Reuters.

In the summer of 2023, prosecutors launched an investigation against Shakira for suspected tax evasion of 6.7 million euros in taxes on 2018 income, through an offshore company. 

In November 2023, she reached an agreement with prosecutors on another pending case against her, paying around 14 million euros in taxes for the years 2012-2014.

After divorcing footballer Gerard Pique in 2022, the star moved to Miami where she lives with her two children.
