The new biography of John F. Kennedy Jr., released yesterday, includes many unknown stories about his life, and among them is an account of what really happened in his meeting with Princess Diana in 1995.
During that time, both the princess and JFK Jr. were constantly in the spotlight, with paparazzi following them at every turn. A meeting between them was difficult to realize without any information in the public, but thanks to the partners it became possible. The book JFK Jr: An Intimate Oral Biography, written by RoseMarie Terenzio and Liz McNeil, reveals new details about the meeting, as well as the real reason Diana said yes to America's most wanted man.
The real reason for the meeting
Diana's personal secretary, Patrick Jepson, told the book's authors:
"Diana wanted everything to be discreet because such a story could become the subject of intense rumours. The world's most wanted bachelorette… and she was just divorced or in the process of getting divorced.
She didn't like gossip, but she was curious to meet him. Partly, I think, because Sarah Ferguson liked him and Diana wanted to date him.'
Until recently we knew that JFK Jr. and Diana had met to discuss the possibility of the princess appearing on the cover of George magazine, which the former published. Ultimately, the real reason behind Diana's motivations was not professional, but personal.
