The coach and husband of record holder and athlete Luiza Gega, Taulant Stërmasi, invited to a television show, spoke about his personal life in addition to sports. Asked by the moderator if he is teased by his mother about when he will have children, Stërmasi laughingly said that "this happens every day starting from 15 years ago."
He added that he and his wife Luzia Gega plan to become parents, and they hope this happens as soon as possible.
"It's been 10 years, 15, who knows. As soon as the sentence starts, I'm gone. The strongest thing is that my sister is 20 years younger and has two children. I love my grandchildren very much. Even from the children I've always been involved with. In a way, I said I'd be cold, but it's impossible. I believe it's close. I believe it is. We don't have any news, but I believe it will definitely be close," said Taulanti.
He also recounted the story of how they met. He said that it was the father of the girls he trains today who introduced him to Luiza years ago, when she came from Durrës to Tirana to train.
Stërmasi said that Luzia, when he met her, was not the elegant, record-breaking, fast girl we know today, but rather chubby.
"On her birthday, she came to me and introduced me to the girls' father, since the girls' father was Luiza's coach. Luiza would come to school in Tirana, and she told me 'I have my niece', she is my sister-in-law's daughter and she is a very good athlete. In fact, I had never seen her before. She told me 'either you do it, or she will have to leave the sport'. The first two years were very difficult. She was used to doing 4 workouts a week. We did 8, 9, 11. The training regimen is high intensity. Liza was like a ball, she was round, with a belly. Liza weighed 52 kilograms. So, she is the fastest athlete in a European championship", said Taulanti in the interview.
