The European Commission has distributed around 40,000 train tickets for free travel across Europe to young people who celebrated their 18th birthday last year.
According to an official announcement made today in Brussels, the distribution of tickets is linked to the 40th anniversary of the Schengen free movement area, which was celebrated last year. This anniversary served as a special occasion for the expansion of the program.
Winners of the tickets will have the opportunity to travel to European countries for a period of up to 30 days. The trips can be made in the time interval from March 2026 to May 2027.
In addition to the free train ticket, beneficiaries will also be provided with a discount card, which offers discounts on local public transport, cultural activities, accommodation and other services in 36 European countries.
The free travel program for young people was launched by the European Union in 2018 and takes place twice a year, distributing thousands of tickets each time with the aim of promoting mobility, cultural recognition and European identity.
