Details from the Australian Prime Minister's wedding; Albanian marries his

Anthony Albanese became the first Australian prime minister to marry during his term on Saturday (29/11).

Albanese married his partner, Jody Haydon, in Canberra on Saturday afternoon at the Prime Minister's official residence, the so-called "Lodge", in the presence of a small group of relatives and close friends.

"We are absolutely delighted to share our love and commitment to spending our future lives together, in front of our closest family and friends," Albanese and Haydon said in a statement.

The couple were married by a priest from the Central Coast of New South Wales. Haydon was walked down the aisle by her parents to the sound of Ben Folds' "The Luckiest."

The couple will spend their honeymoon in Australia next week.

How did they meet?

The couple first met at a public event in Melbourne more than five years ago.

Albanese proposed to Haydon on the balcony of the Lodge on Valentine's Day in February 2024, after dinner at a popular Canberra restaurant. He designed a custom-made engagement ring for the occasion.

Haydon regularly accompanies Albanians to public events, on official trips abroad, and during election campaigns.

More "shy" in the media than the wives of other political figures in the country, she has taken on some of the traditional roles of the prime minister's wife.

Albanese separated from his ex-wife, Carmel Tebbutt, in 2019. The couple were married for nearly two decades.

Haydon works for the New South Wales Public Employees Union and has previously held roles in the pensions sector. She was born to teaching parents in Bankstown, Sydney, but grew up on the Central Coast.
