Diddy's mother has publicly defended her son, who is facing a series of allegations of sexual abuse and human trafficking. Janice Combs released a statement Sunday through her attorney, saying:
“My son is not the monster you make him out to be and he deserves an opportunity to tell his side of the story. It breaks my heart to watch my son being judged not because of the truth but because of a story that was built on lies. "Like any human being, my son deserves to go to court and present his version to prove his innocence," she said.
Janice continued: “Sometimes the truth and a lie are so closely intertwined that it becomes terrifying to accept part of the story, especially when that truth is out of the ordinary or too complicated to believe. This is why I believe my son's civil legal team decided to settle the ex-girlfriend's lawsuit instead of fighting it all the way, resulting in a ricochet effect as the federal government used this decision against my son by interpret it as an admission of guilt"
Janice referred to 2016 footage released by CNN in which Diddy appeared to be raping then-girlfriend Cassie at a Los Angeles hotel. Cassie sued the music mogul in November 2023 for sexual assault and physical abuse over 10 years. Diddy denied the allegations and the lawsuit was settled within a day.
Last month, Diddy was arrested on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and transportation to engage in prostitution. A 14-page indictment of the rapper alleged that he had "abused, threatened and coerced women and others around him" for decades, and accused him of using these acts to fulfill his "sexual desires, to protect the reputation of him and to hide his behavior".
