World-famous singer Dua Lipa has inaugurated the Manifesto Library, a space dedicated to banned and censored books, which will be a permanent part of the historic Livraria Lello bookstore in Porto, Portugal.

The project was presented as part of the international book festival BABELL – City of Books and, according to the artist, is the result of a multi-year mission to promote reading and freedom of expression.

"When I founded the Service95 Book Club, my goal was to create a home for writers and readers, wherever they are. Reading brings us closer, but unfortunately not everyone sees it that way," said Dua Lipa.

The library contains about 100 books, organized around four main themes: power, control, voice and memory. Its shelves feature well-known works such as Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale", Reginald Dwayne Betts' "Felon", as well as books by authors Salman Rushdie and Olga Tokarczuk.

According to the singer, the Manifesto Library is a place dedicated to authors whose works have been censored or banned, as well as readers who believe that no one should decide which books are allowed to be read.

In addition to her engagement in music, Dua Lipa continues to promote literature through the Service95 Book Club, and has also been selected as a curator of the 2026 London Literature Festival, which will take place at the Southbank Centre.
