Elon Musk has given his opinion on the new 'virtual reality' kit from the Apple group, telling his followers that "psychedelic mushrooms are better", and most Twitter users agreed with him.
In a meme-like post, he placed an image of the new Vision Pro headset and glasses next to a packet of dried magic mushrooms, making the comparison: “Apple's $3,500 virtual reality headset vs. virtual stimulation of magic mushrooms that costs only $20”.
His comment had been viewed more than 60 million times and liked more than 800,000, prompting a potential "bankruptcy" of the tech company's much-hyped product.
Thousands of Twitter users responded with irony saying, "Now we know where the dream of going to Mars came from," suggesting that Musk should have consumed mushrooms before launching his space program.
Fellow user @HannahStraight commented: "I just watched a video using the magic mushrooms and can totally confirm they work much better than the virtual reality kit."
Commenter @CharlesPerey confirmed: "In my personal opinion this is correct!"
This is actually not the first time that Elon talks about his preference for magic mushrooms, as in a New York Times article he highlighted the advantages of mushrooms and their psychoactive ingredient MDMA, compared to alcohol.
The head of Tesla has previously expressed support for psychedelic substances in response to a comment by billionaire Marc Andressen.
He said: "I have spoken to many people who have been helped by magic mushrooms and their psychedelic content, ethamine, SSRIs or amphetamines."
The development comes despite Apple's new product receiving "excellent" reviews from tech journalists.
After trying out the company's new kit, popular YouTube tech columnist Marques Brownlee called the camera's eye-tracking feature "magical."
Others also rated it highly, but it is not known which of them are 'independent' and which are 'paid'.
Apple itself wrote on its website: "Welcome to the age of spatial computing, as Apple Vision Pro seamlessly combines digital content with your physical space."
