The federal prison where Sean "Diddy" Combs is being held could be in for some quick upgrades. Recent reports describe the detention center in Brooklyn, New York, as a "hell," highlighting some serious problems at the facility.
Apparently, the complaints have been heard, as the facility recently underwent an "inter-institutional operation," as part of intensive efforts to improve conditions.
Diddy has been held at the facility since September, when he was arrested and charged with serious offenses including sex trafficking and encouraging prostitution.
On Monday, investigators from several federal agencies inspected the Metropolitan Detention Center, where Diddy is being held ahead of his trial on sex charges. The "interagency operation" involved the FBOP, the US Department of Justice's Office of Inspector General, and other law enforcement agencies. A representative who spoke to TMZ explained that the operation was undertaken "to ensure a safe environment for both inmates and staff at MDC Brooklyn."
The representative added that this operation is part of efforts to improve conditions at the center, but it remains unclear which areas have been observed more closely.
Although complaints about MDC are not new, Diddy's detention at the center has drawn more attention. His lawyers have previously claimed that the MDC faces widespread violence among prisoners and several cases of death, which could threaten its security. They have also raised concerns about living conditions, noting that the "hardest part" of imprisonment for the Bad Boy Records founder has been food.
However, Diddy is being held in a special unit within the facility, which has helped ensure his protection from other inmates who may intend to attack him for various reasons.
