Angelina Jolie has written in detail about how difficult her divorce from Brad Pitt was during their legal battle over the Chateau Miraval estate and vineyard in France. "The events that led to my need to separate from my ex-husband were emotionally difficult for me and our children. When I filed for divorce, I gave him control of our family homes in Los Angeles and Miraval, without compensation. I hoped this would bring him some peace after a difficult and traumatic time," she said.
She further wrote that she and her children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne have not set foot on the aforementioned property since their divorce because it brings back painful memories. “After the divorce, I immediately began looking for a new home for me and our children. I initially rented the house while I looked for a more permanent solution,” she added. Brad sued Angelina for her share of the French estate, claiming that she sold her shares to the wine brand Stoli Group without his permission.
The actress claims she didn't need his permission to do so. She also said her savings were tied to Miraval and that she didn't ask Brad for child support or any other financial support, so she needed money from the estate.
"I was also very concerned about our children's health, so I refused to work for about two years so I could focus on caring for our children and their recovery," she said. The actress claims she was so financially strapped that she couldn't afford to buy a house, so Brad reportedly agreed to lend her money with interest.
“Miraval was one of the first major investments we made together and was a highlight of our family life. We got married there, I spent part of my pregnancy there and brought our twins home from the hospital there. It was hard to part with the home and memories so suddenly, and it was especially hard on the children, whose lives were so disrupted,” she continued. She is seeking $33,000 from her ex-husband to cover legal costs.
