Brazilian football legend Romario has reacted strongly after Brazil's elimination from the World Cup, demanding the immediate removal of Carlo Ancelotti from the post of national team coach.
The former Selecao striker, world champion in 1994 and author of 55 goals in 70 matches with the Brazil jersey, did not spare criticism of the Italian coach, describing the team's performance against Norway as unacceptable.
" He can't stay as Brazil coach, there's no way. If I were in the Federation, I would have gone to the locker room, told him to go to hell and I would have torn up his contract immediately ," Romario declared.
According to him, Brazil cannot continue with Ancelotti after the mistakes made during the tournament.
" The match against Norway was a disgrace. I would even take him to court. Then we'll see what happens, but he can't stand it ."
Romario also criticized the Italian coach's tactical choices, questioning the substitution of Bruno Guimaraes and the activation of Ederson in a role that, according to him, was not natural.
" I don't understand what he was thinking on the pitch: taking off Bruno Guimaraes to put Ederson on the wing? And he does this because you haven't called up other wing-backs. A defender gets injured and you call up a midfielder? "
In his reaction, the former striker also brought to attention the way the Brazilian Federation has dealt with previous coaches after failures in major tournaments.
" We had Dunga, he lost and left. We had Felipe Scolari, who won the Cup and stayed. We had Tite, who lost, stayed and lost again ."
Romario continued his criticism of Ancelotti, holding him responsible for Brazil's elimination.
" Now we have this damn Ancelotti, who lost and will continue to do so. He made a lot of mistakes in this World Cup and you in the press don't say anything ."
In the end, he claimed that the fact that Ancelotti is a foreign coach has influenced the way he has been treated by public opinion and the media.
" If he had been a Brazilian coach, you would have torn him to pieces. But since he is a foreigner, nobody says anything ."
