In a new interview conducted with comedian Nikki Glaser for Interview magazine on September 10 and published on Wednesday, October 9, Jennifer Lopez, 55, opened up about her time spent abroad and in the Hamptons in the months before filing for divorce from ex-husband Ben Affleck.
“I have to be like, 'I have to go away and be alone. I want to prove to myself that I can do this," said the Unstoppable actress. "Yeah, it's very difficult," Lopez said, when Glaser asked about the experience.
"You feel alone, unknown, scared. You feel sad. You feel depressed. But when you sit in those feelings and say, 'These things aren't going to kill me,' it's like, actually, I'm capable of joy and happiness, all by myself," said Lopez, who spent most of her summer except for Affleck, 52, before they officially ended their marriage.
Lopez listed April 26, 2024 as the former couple's separation date when she filed for divorce in Los Angeles on Aug. 20.
"Being in a relationship doesn't define me. I can't look to other people for happiness," Lopez added. "I must have happiness within myself. I used to say I'm a happy person, but I was still looking for something for someone else to fill in, and it's like, "No, I'm actually fine."
