Lady Gaga, one of the most iconic and multifaceted performers of our time, recently opened up about her experience with mental health while filming her Oscar-winning film, A Star Is Born. In a candid interview with Rolling Stone, the 39-year-old singer and actress revealed that she was under the influence of lithium while filming the 2018 film. Lithium, often prescribed to manage symptoms of bipolar disorder, played a significant role in her life at the time, though Gaga has not publicly revealed any specific diagnosis.
"I did the movie 'A Star Is Born' on lithium," Gaga told the magazine. The film, co-starring Bradley Cooper, was a huge success, but it seems the road behind the scenes wasn't easy for the pop star. After the film wrapped, Gaga embarked on her "Joanne" world tour, which lasted from August 2017 to February 2018.
However, during this period, her mental health took a serious toll. Gaga admitted that she suffered a psychotic breakdown during the tour. "One day my sister said to me, 'I'm never seeing my sister again,' and I canceled the tour," she recalled.
The situation escalated to the point that Gaga sought psychiatric care. "I needed to take a break. I couldn't do anything... I just completely collapsed. It was really scary."
At the time, Gaga admitted that she didn't think she could recover. "I feel really lucky to be alive," she confessed. "I know this may sound dramatic, but we know how this can go."
Her story sheds light on the mental health issues many people face as they navigate high-pressure careers.
