
Forbes has published the list of the 10 richest people in the world. The scepter is held by Elon Musk, whose fortune increased by six billion dollars during December 2023.
Bernard Arnault dropped to the no. 2 of the richest people in early June 2023 and remained there. He was the richest man in the world for the first five months of last year.
9/10 of the richest people in the world are Americans, including Jeff Bezos, Larry Ellison and Bill Gates.
The billionaires at the top of the Forbes list have had a good December, at least when it comes to their stocks. Seven of the 10 richest people in the world are richer than a month ago. Their wealth collectively increased by $30 billion in December – a much smaller "blip" than the $115 billion increase in November 2023.
One of the biggest gainers, Mark Zuckerberg, rose to fifth place, from seventh place on the list of the world's richest people on December 1. He is now ahead of Bill Gates, who for years was the richest man in the world.
Together, the 10 richest people in the world, according to Forbes, own assets worth $1.47 trillion, up from $1.44 trillion a month earlier. The two biggest gainers last month (in dollars) were the founder of Facebook and the CEO of LVMH. The wealth of each of them increased by $9.4 billion compared to December 1 due to the increase in the share price of their respective companies.
Elon Musk is still the richest man in the world, with a fortune of $251 billion. The CEO of electric car maker Tesla also owns stakes in private rocket company SpaceX and social media company X, formerly known as Twitter.
Software mogul Larry Ellison of Oracle was the big loser of the top ten. His fortune fell by $11.2 billion in December as Oracle shares fell 10%. Ellison is still in 4th place, with a fortune of $135.3 billion.
