The strong bond between Princess Diana and her fortune teller is revealed after 30 years of secret letters

The letter that Princess Diana wrote to her 'fortune teller', in which she wrote how much she appreciated her, has been discovered after 30 years.

Diana formed a close bond with Rita Rogers, whom she regularly visited for fortune telling after being introduced by a mutual friend in 1994.

The Princess is said to have taken her lover, Dodi Al-Fayed, to meet him a few weeks before they both lost their lives in the tragic accident in Paris on August 31, 1997.

Rogers, who was also close to Sarah Ferguson, the former Duchess of York, later claimed to have told Diana that she would be romantically involved with a foreign man with a name beginning with "D", shortly before she began dating Al-Fayed.

This made Dodi want to meet Rita, and the meeting took place at her home in Lower Pilsley, Derbyshire, on 12 August 1997.

In the handwritten letter, Diana thanks Rita for her "extraordinary kindness and generosity" and adds that her friendship is "extremely precious and appreciated."

A month after Diana wrote this letter, her infamous BBC Panorama interview with journalist Martin Bashir was broadcast.

The correspondence, dated October 23, 1995 and written on Kensington Palace letterhead, reads:

"This letter is long overdue, but it truly comes from the heart."

I really wanted to know how deeply I appreciate our conversations and after all you give to others, you still find time for this special Cancer!

You, Rita, are extremely kind and generous to me and this is greatly appreciated and valued – thank you.”

The Princess flew with Dodi in a Harrods helicopter to meet Rita at her home in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, on August 12, 1997.

The couple spent 90 minutes with the fortune teller.

Rogers, who is of Roma descent and now in her 80s, later recalled:

"She called at least once a week to check on me, as well as for readings. When she came to see me, she would hug me tightly."

He always left me a gift… we laughed and had an incredible relationship.

I had told him that he would meet a foreign man with the initial 'D' in the water – and that the man would be connected to the film industry.

Not long after, she called me and said, 'Rita, guess where I am? I'm on a boat with a man I just met, named Dodi Fayed.'"

The two-page letter, signed "with love, Diana", is being sold from a private collection at Chiswick Auctions in London, with an estimate of £1,500 to £2,000. The sale takes place on January 31.

Specialist Valentina Borghi said:

"The current seller purchased the paper on the London market several years ago."

We know that Diana relied on astrologers and spiritualists, hoping to find emotional support and guidance.

The general perception is that this stemmed from difficulties in her marriage to Prince Charles.”
