The singer Drenusha Latifi has revealed the real reasons why the separation from her ex-husband, with whom she had been married for 10 years, happened.
According to her, the main reason for this separation was the physical and economic violence he used towards her. According to the singer, divorce was the only solution for her and her children.
Moderator: You ended your almost 10-year marriage some time ago, don't get me wrong.
Drenusha Latifi: It's been a year and a half since we broke up.
Moderator: Can I ask you what are the reasons for divorce?
Drenusha Latifi: The main reason was physical violence as well as economic violence. I am very realistic in what I say and I know that many people will not like it. At the time I was financially independent, not that I was economically dependent on him, but we had many financial things together. At the moment when I was economically independent, I found work myself, I was not economically dependent on the Swedish state or any other government. Normally it was even easier for me to make such a decision. When I met my ex-husband, he didn't have any wealth, nothing, on the contrary, he was in a very bad economic phase when we met and we met many things together, but when I did not come to terms with the physical violence that was done to me and economic, psychological violence, etc., I had to look at my entire territory to see what is best for me and my children, I realized that if I want to be economically independent and I am independent, I can break away from it.
Moderator : What does economic violence mean?
Drenusha Latifi: Economic violence is when your partner asks you to get a loan or you have a business with your partner and he tries to take your money and not letting you have control over those money. If they were invested in the family, I don't believe that any woman would have objections. I think the conflict comes when this money goes outside the family, no matter where it goes, into gambling, alcohol, drugs or his personal belongings.
