Police in Washington have arrested a man at the north entrance to Capitol Hill after he was spotted with a firearm, which is strictly prohibited within the Capitol grounds.
Capitol Hill is the seat of the American government, home to the domed United States Capitol, the Senate, the House of Representatives, and the neoclassical Supreme Court.
CNN captured video of the suspect's arrest. It shows six officers surrounding an SUV, two of whom have their guns drawn and are directing them toward a man who emerges from the driver's side with his hands over his head.
The man walks backwards away from his car and the officers lower their weapons. A group then approaches the man and handcuffs him behind his back as more officers arrive on the scene.
The man appears to be talking to an officer, who is gesturing from inside the vehicle. A dog sitting inside the vehicle barks at an officer through an open window.
Capitol Police said the north barricade will be closed while they investigate, and staff and other personnel were advised to avoid the area.
