Iran declared that it will never allow the United States to take control or interfere in the administration of the Strait of Hormuz, warning that any such action will be met with a determined military response.
The statement was made by the spokesman for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Command, Ebrahim Zolfaqari, who accused Washington of endangering the region's security and freedom of navigation.
" The repeated provocations and hostile actions of the United States to interfere in the management of the Strait of Hormuz have seriously jeopardized the security of the region, international trade and the passage of oil tankers and merchant ships ," Zolfaqari said.
He added that the cooperation of several countries in the region with the US has increased the risk of the conflict spreading throughout the Middle East.
" We will not allow the United States to interfere in the management of the Strait of Hormuz in any way, and we will not allow this in the future ," he declared.
According to the Iranian spokesman, Iran's armed forces will react "resolutely" to any action that, according to him, violates the safety of navigation in the strait.
Zolfaqari also sent a warning to countries in the region, stressing that any cooperation with the United States or any logistical support for the American military will be considered by Tehran as an act of war.
" If the conflict expands to the region, the flames of war will engulf all countries in the area ," he warned.
The statements come after US President Donald Trump said that the United States will take control of the Strait of Hormuz and that Washington will be responsible for its administration.
