Palazzo Ca' Dario, one of the most famous palaces on the Grand Canal in Venice, has remained empty for decades, not because of its price tag of around 20 million euros, but because of the legends that consider it a "cursed palace."

Built in the 15th century by diplomat Giovanni Dario, the palace, with nine bedrooms, eight bathrooms and frescoed salons, has attracted aristocrats, artists and famous merchants. Notable visitors include Claude Monet, who painted it in 1908, and Henry James, who mentioned it in his writings.

But legends of misfortune and tragic deaths have haunted the property over the centuries. According to accounts, at least seven people have died under mysterious circumstances in or near the palace, including:

Count Filippo Giordano delle Lanze, murdered in 1970;
The Who's manager Christopher "Kit" Lambert, who died in London after an accident;
Financier Raul Gardini, who committed suicide in Milan after a scandal;
and people who simply came to visit, such as tenor Mario Del Monaco or bassist John Entwistle, who died a few days after staying there.
Today, the palace has been restored and is being sold by Christie's International Real Estate and Engel & Völkers, describing it as an "architectural jewel" with Gothic arches, Murano glass and a loggia. But its dark reputation seems to have scared off potential buyers, including well-known figures such as Woody Allen.

According to local experts, the legend of the curse is a mix of real history and Venetian fantasy, but it still continues to attract the curious and bold investors.

“This is a place where history lives,” says Christie's Arnaldo Fusello. “Whoever wants to keep this property alive and live among history will find the right home.”
