The commission that carried out the investigation into the "Fashion For Relief" foundation has recovered £344,000 and protected another £98,000 of funds from the charities. In early 2024, Naomi Campbell's foundation was dissolved and removed from the charity register.
The commission also decided to ban Campbell from running a charity for the next five years, while two other people who worked for the foundation were also suspended.
In her first statement after the scandal, Campbell said she had no control over the organization, entrusting the operation to a lawyer. She expressed her desire to find out the reasons and how the funds were mismanaged. The former model emphasized that everything she did and all the money she earned was destined for charity. She made the comments during an event in Paris where she was receiving an award for her membership in the Order of Arts and Letters.
According to the investigation, from April 2016 to July 2022, only 8.5% of the foundation's total expenditure was used for charitable grants, while most of the funds were spent on luxury activities. This situation highlights the need for more transparency and accountability in charities.
