WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that allows private conversations with its artificial intelligence chatbot, in a mode called "incognito" , where not even the company will have access to the content of the communication.
According to the announcement, when this mode is activated, neither the user's questions nor the artificial intelligence's answers will be stored or monitored, while the chat history will not be available after the session ends.
WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart said users have been asking for more privacy in communications with AI, especially on sensitive topics like health, relationships and finances.
"We've heard from many people that they feel uncomfortable about sharing personal information with the company, but still want answers," Cathcart said.
However, cybersecurity experts have raised concerns about the potential lack of accountability, arguing that the lack of access to chat history could create problematic situations in the event of abuse or incidents.
Meta Platforms , the owner of WhatsApp, has already included Meta AI in the app, a feature that has sparked debate since its launch, as some users have expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of an option to completely disable it.
In May 2025, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Meta AI had reached over one billion users across all of the company's platforms.
The new feature is expected to bring a higher level of privacy, but it has also opened up a new debate on the balance between security and transparency in the use of artificial intelligence.
