Independent MP Marjana Koçeku has reacted after clashes between protesters and police during the protest held this Thursday in front of the Parliament, where several protesters were accompanied.
Koçeku says that she has followed the police intervention against the protesters with concern, describing violence as the only message that, according to her, the government is conveying to citizens.
According to Koçek, the use of force against citizens is not an indicator of the state's strength, but of the lack of arguments to respond to citizen dissatisfaction.
The MP adds that a state that chooses to respond to protests with violence, according to her, does not demonstrate strength, but an inability to convince citizens.
"I have followed with concern today the police violence exercised against protesters. I regret that the only communication and political message that this government can offer to protesters is violence. When a state runs out of arguments, only the rubber baton, handcuffs and the policeman's boots remain. But no government has extended its life span by hitting citizens who demand to be heard. Take the most key dates in history and you will see that we have witnessed this every time. A state that chooses to respond to citizen dissatisfaction with violence is not demonstrating strength; it is demonstrating its powerlessness to convince ," the MP said.
