Pop star Britney Spears and her ex-husband Kevin Federline are in the spotlight after excerpts from Federline's upcoming memoir were released, alleging disturbing behavior by Spears during their marriage. Spears and her representative have questioned the motives behind the memoir's release, especially since it comes after Federline ended child support payments. Spears also shared a sharp message on social media addressing family dynamics as the debate raged in the media.
The memoirs include allegations about Spears' behavior with their sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James. A passage published in The New York Times says: "They would sometimes wake up at night to find her standing silently at the door, looking at them sleeping, 'Oh, are you awake?' with a knife in her hand," he wrote. "Then she would turn and leave without explanation."
Federline expressed fears for his children, saying: "The truth is, this situation with Britney looks like it's heading towards something irreversible. From where I sit, the clock is ticking and we're getting close to the 11th hour. Something bad is going to happen if things don't change, and my biggest fear is that our boys are going to be left holding the pieces of their heads." He also described it as "impossible to pretend that everything is okay."
A spokesperson for Spears criticized Federline's motives for the memoir: "With the news that Kevin's book is out, he and others are profiting from it, and unfortunately this comes after Kevin's child support has ended," the rep told E! News. "All she cares about is her children, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being during this sensationalism. She detailed her journey in her memoir [The Woman Inside Me]."
On Oct. 14, Spears posted a message on Instagram: "Honor your mother and father, but always protect your heart," she wrote alongside a recent photo of the ocean. "Only honor them if they have honored you in a sacred way!!! If not, you will find a new family."
Since Spears' legal custody of her father ended in November 2021, the singer has had limited contact with her family. Federline's memories and Spears' social media activity have reignited interest in the changing dynamics between family members.
