After a short but luxurious marriage, Australian singer Sia is facing an unusual request from her ex-husband.
Daniel Bernard, a former doctor, is seeking over $250,000 a month in alimony, claiming he has become financially dependent on the famous artist and that he needs the funds to maintain the expensive life they shared together.
Sia Furler, known for hits like 'Chandelier' and 'Titanium', officially filed for divorce from Daniel Bernard in March, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split.
In court documents, Bernard, a former doctor, says he needs this monthly amount to maintain the "luxurious and high-class lifestyle" he enjoyed during his marriage to the singer.
He states that he became "financially dependent on Sia" after quitting his job to open a joint medical business, which was short-lived.
According to the documents, the couple, who married in December 2022 and have an 18-month-old son, spent over $400,000 a month on private jet travel, vacations, luxury restaurants and permanent staff.
"We never needed to control our spending," he wrote in a statement.
Bernard, 47, argues that the temporary financial assistance is "necessary" as Sia was "the main source of income in our marriage".
A former oncologist by profession, Bernard adds that it takes him several years of training and passing several exams to regain his license and practice his profession again.
He has also requested additional payments to cover legal and financial audit costs. The singer's representatives have not yet commented on the matter.
