Bluetooth voice Kristen DiMercurio, 32, says she's recognized around the world when she speaks, but no one recognizes her face. She is the voice of many audiobooks, commercials, video games and voicemails, as well as Bluetooth. Kristen is the voice for phrases like "Bluetooth connected" and "your Bluetooth device is ready to connect."
Kristen, from Los Angeles, says she is often recognized for the words "Bluetooth connected" on social media and even surprises herself when she hears her voice in public. "People know my voice from audiobooks, podcasts, commercials — my voice is everywhere," she said. "A lot of people know me by saying I'm their Bluetooth device or headset. People are excited by the idea that I'm their device. I've done enough of them to be your device."
Growing up with a passion for theater, Kristen studied musical theater at Emerson College from 2010 to 2014. After graduation, she aspired to work in theater, but shifted to voice acting after realizing that the industry often doesn't pay well. "I got into an alumni chat on Facebook and asked if anyone knew of any dubbing classes. My friend asked me if I wanted to audition for his audio project called Ars Paradoxia - a fictional podcast. I thought no one would to listen to, but it worked," she explained. "I thought, 'Wow, this could really be something.'
Kristen eagerly pursued every job opportunity and quickly transitioned into voice acting. She described her career trajectory as moving "much faster than my theater career would have gone." She previously worked on a voice platform that acts as an Etsy for voice actors, where she opened a store and displayed samples of her voice to potential customers.
While Kristen enjoys getting to know each other on social media, she notices that strangers usually don't approach her. "I'm more popular on social media; strangers don't come up to me and say they recognize my voice as a Bluetooth device, which is unusual for me. They recognize me for audiobooks and video games like WWE. How many times who hits a woman in those games, it's me.
