Ireland Baldwin has shared some personal details about her family life as the daughter of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger, on the eve of her 30th birthday.
Ireland wrote in a post that she "grew up without parents at home and no siblings to talk to."
Alec and Kim married in 1993, separated in 2000, and divorced in 2002.
“I’m entering my thirties with a lot less weight on my shoulders. That weight was placed on me by the need to keep the narcissistic, selfish, drug-addicted family members I thought I needed in my life. I had a lonely childhood, so I grew up feeling like I had to win over certain people in my family. For whatever reason, their appreciation and praise meant a lot to me. Nothing was more liberating than realizing how toxic these people are. So, I’m entering my thirties realizing that this is how you break these cycles.”
Ireland emphasized that she did this so that "her daughter wouldn't know these people and to protect her from them."
"I can do my best to build my idea of family, piece by piece. And show how a real family treats each other."
Ireland has a 2-year-old daughter with RAC, a musician. She says she went through “10 years of suffering,” but has learned to appreciate who she really is.
She also spoke about her close relationship with her mother: "Tell your mother you love her, every day. Write to her when you arrive at the place you're going. You'll soon understand her like never before," she concludes.
