A California doctor has been sentenced to eight months of house arrest and three years of probation, becoming the second person to receive criminal punishment in connection with the overdose death of a famous actor.
It is about Dr. Mark Chavez, a doctor in San Diego, who has pleaded guilty to criminal charges related to the illegal distribution of ketamine, a substance that was found in high levels in Perry's blood after his death in 2023, at the actor's Los Angeles apartment.
According to federal investigations, Chavez was part of an illegal network that provided ketamine to Matthew Perry through fake prescriptions and undercover sales. He obtained the substance from his clinic and from a wholesale distributor, using the name of a former patient without her knowledge or consent.
The ketamine was then sold to Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who was the doctor who supplied it directly to the actor. Plasencia was sentenced earlier this month to 30 months in prison.
The investigation has also uncovered shocking private messages, where the two doctors discussed financial gain from Perry's addiction, mocking the actor and treating his situation as a source of profit.
In addition to the two doctors, three other people are involved in the case and are expected to be sentenced in the coming months. Among them: Matthew Perry's personal assistant and a drug dealer known as the "Ketamine Queen."
