The Buenos Aires City Council has unanimously dismissed Julia Macintash, the judge who last May abused her discretion in the trial for the death of former footballer Diego Armando Maradona.
The eleven members of the Executive Committee, made up of magistrates and legislators from the province of Buenos Aires, decided to dismiss the judge from her position after she did not attend the hearing to read the decision.
McIntosh was dismissed and permanently disqualified from holding judicial office for her participation in an illegal documentary project, entitled "Justicia Divina", about the trial of several people convicted of Maradona's death.
The trial was overturned after the scandal surrounding the clandestine audiovisual reportage. According to the verdict, McIntosh violated the duties of her office, abusing her authority and misusing public funds.
Although she will be able to continue practicing law, the judge will lose her right to a privileged pension as a member of the judiciary, a special regime that allows judicial officials to receive higher than average pension benefits, equal to 82% of their final salary.
The 115-page ruling says the judge "participated in and provided substantial support to a group of individuals in gaining unauthorized access to the courtroom where the trial was being held to determine potential responsibility for the death of Diego Armando Maradona, and authorized them to secretly film images of the proceedings."
" The judge used the trial for the death of someone who was a well-known figure locally and internationally to satisfy a purely personal interest, completely unrelated to the judiciary ," the court document adds.
A new trial to determine responsibility for the death of the Argentine player, which occurred on November 25, 2020, will begin on March 17, 2026.
