Armando Broja "transferred" to North Korea; Kim Jong-un

In a surprising development, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un appears ready to offer his citizens a taste of the world's most popular football league - the Premier League. However, the decision comes with a set of strict conditions that fully reflect the closed and authoritarian nature of his regime.

Censored and shortened broadcasts

According to international reports, Kim has approved the broadcasting of English Premier League matches, but not live. The matches will be broadcast only after editing and approval by state agencies.

The versions shown to the North Korean public will be 60 minutes long, instead of the standard 90 minutes, while any footage "inappropriate" for the regime will be removed from the broadcast.

Replaced graphics and ban on “foreign” content

It is reported that any English-language messages, signs or advertisements displayed in British stadiums will be covered with North Korean graphics or state symbols. Also, any references to the LGBTQ+ community on banners, uniforms or TV commercials will be completely removed from the final broadcast.

Deleting players from South Korea

One of the most controversial conditions concerns South Korean footballers. Players such as Kim Ji-Soo (Brentford) and Hwang Hee-chan (Wolves) will be removed from the final footage, in line with the regime's policy of banning any positive references to its southern neighbour.

A controlled step towards "opening"

Various media sources recall that similar initiatives have been rumored since August of last year, but without any concrete development so far. This time, it seems that the project is moving forward, although under full control by state authorities. This decision is seen as an attempt to increase the regime's popularity through international football, offering a "safe" form of entertainment for the domestic public, but always within the ideological boundaries set by Kim Jong-un.
