Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich lost on Wednesday his court case against the sanctions imposed by the European Union after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Russian officials and a host of Russian businessmen, such as Abramovich, faced sanctions. In addition, the EU froze Russian assets worth hundreds of billions of dollars.
Abramović had filed a legal challenge, however, in the EU court, upholding the sanctions against him.
" The General Court rejects Mr. Abramović's appeal, thus maintaining the restrictive measures taken against him. The Council did not err when it decided to include and then retain Abramović's name on the sanctions lists in question, in light of his role in the Evraz Group and, in particular, in its parent company ," the EU court said in her decision.
