The first two matches of this evening's Champions League have ended. Napoli drew in "Maradona" against Union Berlin with the result 1-1, while Real Sociedad won at home against Benfica 3-1.
In "Reale Arena" (San Sebastian), the accounts of the match were closed very quickly, in the first 10 minutes.
Goals from Merino and Ojarzabal paved the way to success, while the first half still had more to say. Striker Ander Barrenetea added to the tally, before Mendez made a mistake from the penalty spot shortly after. At the beginning of the second half, the guests narrowed the numbers with Rafa Silva, without being able to change the fate of the meeting.
Benfica has been eliminated from the Champions League, where after 4 games it ranks in last place in the group with 0 points. While Sociedad gets a very important 3 points, keeping the first place with 10 points.
On the other side, Union Berlin keeps alive its hopes for the 3rd place to capture the Europa League with the draw it took against Napoli. While the latter squandered a golden opportunity to put "pressure" on Real in the fight for the top of the rankings.
