Marc-Andre ter Stegen's future as Barcelona captain remains uncertain, but the German goalkeeper has already received public support from several teammates, writes Spanish outlet As.

Despite the club considering a move for their first-choice goalkeeper and signing Joan Garcia as a long-term replacement, Ter Stegen has steadfastly refused to leave the club. After returning from a holiday with a back problem, he underwent another surgery, which effectively rules out a move before the winter transfer window.

The captaincy issue remains open. Coach Hansi Flick previously said the team would hold a vote on the captaincy a week before the start of the season.

Some of Ter Stegen's teammates have already expressed their support. Frenkie de Jong stressed that "for me, Marc is the captain of the team, just like last season. He is a world-class player and has always given everything for the club."

Ferran Torres added: "I don't know if there will be a vote, we haven't talked about it yet. But, based on the experience and years in the team, I believe that Ter Stegen will be captain again."

Young defender Pau Cubarsi also backed the goalkeeper: "We are calm. He is our captain and we are happy with that."

Despite some discontent within the club over Ter Stegen's actions at the end of last season, he has a strong chance of retaining the captain's armband at least until the winter.
