Former Barcelona and Brazil national team player Daniel Alves was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for sexual abuse.
The incident took place on December 30, 2022 in the bathroom of a nightclub in Barcelona, and for this incident the former footballer was in prison for 14 months, before being released on bail on March 20 of this year, after paying a bond of 1 million euros.

The citizens of Juazeiro, the municipality where the former defender was born, have lobbied for the removal of the statue dedicated to him, inaugurated in December 2020 amid controversy, since article 21 of the Constitution of the State of Bahia and federal law 6.454/1977 prohibit the installation of a monument or for a street to be named after a living person.
After the incident with the player, the statue was damaged twice. The pressure on the municipality increased further, after the Public Prosecutor's Office of Bahia recommended that it be removed, and in the end it became a fact.
