Enco Mareska is officially the new coach of Chelsea.
The news was announced by the London club itself through a post on social networks. He has signed a 5-year contract with an option to renew until June 2030.
" Joining Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world, is a dream for every coach. I look forward to working with a very talented group of players and staff to develop a team that continues the club's tradition of success and makes our fans proud ", were the Italian's first words after the presentation.
The 44-year-old technician has a long career in the coaching profession. Previously, Mareska was an assistant coach at Ascoli in Italy, and then at Sevilla, and West Ham. In 2020, Mareska made his debut as a first coach by taking charge of Manchester City U23.
1 year later, the Italian returned to his homeland where he took over the job of coach at Parma, but the adventure lasted only 7 months. Mareska returned to the Premier League, where he took on the role of Pep Guardiola's assistant at City. During the last season, the 44-year-old coach ended it with Leister, the club he brought back to the elite of English football.
Now, for the Italian coach, a very difficult new adventure begins, as he has to "rebuild" from the ground up a Chelsea left half by the departed Mauricio Pochettino.
