The coach of the Albanian National Team, Silvinjo, gave a long interview to UEFA, where he showed how the red and black project was created. In his words, he revealed parts of the work, the mentality that they add to the team and the desire to take the next step.
Work with Albania
" It was a marriage, mutual on both sides. The project interested me a lot and they were interested in us as a technical staff, with Dorivan, Zabaleta: young people who really want to do well. In Albania they speak a lot of Italian. I realized that between Italian and English I could get by at work. Albanians appreciate a kind of technical football, with players who like tricks. They like to play good football, so that also gave me the feeling that 'Yes, I can work here very well '.
We are South American, but also very European. Pablo spent ten years in the Premier League. I played a bit in the Premier League, in Spain for a long time; in Italy I worked with Roberto Mancini. Doriva played in Italy, he played in Portugal. Our technical staff is very multicultural".
Leading by example
" Doriva, Pablo and I are all people who have fought a lot in our lives. As footballers, to reach where the three of us have reached, to do everything we have done. The players understand this. This mindset is very important.
We are humble in the sense that we recognize the fact that we have stopped playing football. The players are the protagonists and they are the ones who play. However, there is something we can pass on to them and that is mentality. “Guys, you need to train well, seriously. We can't lose in a training session." You have to put that in the minds of the players and they will say: "I don't come to training to train, I come to training to win ".
What Albania and Sao Paulo have in common
" I was born in Sao Paulo and I lived there in the 1980s and 1990s. I used to play football in the streets there. It was really hard, really physical. The biggest thing Tirana and Sao Paulo have in common are the people in Brazil and Albania. We are all the people-hugging type; relations are really warm and people say, “Sit down and have a meal with me. The doors of my house are open." This is something that both countries have in common ."
For Kristjan Asllan and Jasir Asan
" Kristjan is a technically gifted player who is excellent with both feet. He is capable of playing on both sides. He is technical, young and forging his own path. He still has a lot to learn, like any 21- or 22-year-old player. He is really strong in terms of his technical skills and is blessed with a lot of personality. He is a great player.
Asani is a player we found in South Korea. He is a left-footed player who plays on the right and gets into the middle, which we like. He scores important and beautiful goals, like those against Poland and Moldova. He is a big, high-quality player who has an excellent long-range shot. He is really making a place for himself in the national team . "
Ambitions in "EURO 2024"
" To be honest, it's wonderful. All together, as one, we have done a great job. Besides Pablo and Doriva, there are many other members of the technical staff, but also people in the federation who work hard. We do all this together and understand what we are after. We have achieved things, we have reached "EURO 2024": this is an achievement. The main feeling is enthusiasm and happiness. People are really happy.
We've come this far, we know how much we are, we're getting better. It will be a real challenge. However, we will get to work. The games will be fantastic, but difficult, and if we are able to beat our opponents, we want to continue. We are doing well, but if we could take another step forward, then even better ."
