Ronaldo phenomenon: Brazil has lost its status as the undisputed favorite
The Ronaldo Phenomenon

The phenomenon Ronaldo decides to speak at length. The former Brazilian football star, who will celebrate his 50th birthday in September, gave an exclusive interview to the French daily 'L'Equipe', touching on many topics, starting with the inclusion of Neymar in the squad for the current edition of the World Cup.

"I am completely in favor of Neymar's return to the national team," Ronaldo said, "because in the current group I don't see any other player with his ability to make the team win a match. I also experienced my own personal comeback in 2002... I hope his performances will silence all those who considered him finished."

Ronaldo then spoke about Brazil not winning the World Cup in 24 years.

"For a team to be declared world champion, all the other teams must lose," added Ronaldo. "Brazil has lost its status as the undisputed favorite, but it remains one of the great powers of football. The fact that we are the national team with the most world titles won in history puts a lot of pressure on the younger generations."

Of course, Fenomen's predictions for this edition of the World Cup could not be missed.

'France, Spain and Argentina play excellent football and are very competitive,' added Ronaldo. 'Germany is always very dangerous. They are Brazil's main rivals for the title.'

The Brazilian football legend also touched on the topic of the France bench with Zidane set to take Didier Deschamps' place.

"He has the perfect profile for this role," Ronaldo said, "he has the talent, the experience, the tactical intelligence and the ideal character. He was the teammate who impressed me the most, the best I've ever had. His performance against Brazil in the 2006 World Cup? It was absolutely brilliant. The highest level of technical qualities imaginable. He even made me a sombrero... I didn't speak to him during the match, but only at the end when he came to our dressing room. A lot of the players were crying, so I said to him: 'Congratulations, but you have to go'. Ronaldinho was also a great teammate, with a truly unique gene."

In the end, Ronaldo did not spare compliments for Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi.

"When I see Mbappe play, he reminds me of myself when I was at my peak," Ronaldo said. "He is one of the greatest players in current football and a natural heir to the legends of this sport. Messi? He is one of the greatest footballers in history and, even now, continues to be decisive."
