A few months ago, the current PSG coach declared that his dream would be to repeat the same scene with the Parisians, a dream that was impossible, however, because his daughter passed away prematurely in 2019 at the age of 9 after a serious illness.
The Champions League final on May 31 in Munich has an added value for PSG coach Luis Enrique, who therefore wants to stay true to the promise made in the past. The Spaniard will return to the final act of the biggest European competition exactly 10 years after the last time he lifted the cup with 'big ears' in the Berlin sky with Barcelona, defeating Juventus coached by Massimiliano Allegri with a score of 3-1.
Many things have changed on a family level for Luis Enrique since that moment until today, in fact on that occasion he even had his youngest daughter, Xana, who in 2015 was only 6 years old, on the pitch to celebrate with him. Everyone remembers the images of the little girl on the pitch with her father, with the Barcelona and Catalonia flags.
Xana later passed away at the age of 9, in 2019, after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare and very aggressive bone cancer. Recently, "Lucho" revealed how close he feels to his daughter spiritually, despite her no longer being physically present.
" For me, she's not dead, but she's always with us. Spiritually, she is. Every day we talk about her and I think Xana is still watching us from somewhere ," he said.
A few days after the PSG-Manchester City 4-2 match in the press conference for the match against Lens, Luis Enrique expressed a wish.
" I remember an incredible photo at the Champions League final in Berlin, where Xana raised the Barcelona flag. I would like to do the same with PSG. My daughter will not be there physically, but she will be there spiritually ," Enrique recalled.
The coach has the opportunity to make everything a reality. The next match is against Inter, where he can become European club champion for the second time as a coach and relive that image etched in his mind.
