Brazilian football legend Mario Zagalo has passed away at the age of 92.

He won four World Cups as a player and coach, including the 1970 side considered by many to be the best ever.

The left-back played in the team that won the first Brazilian Cup in 1958 and was in the side that retained the title four years later.

Zagalo went on to become an all-time great coach including Pele, Jairzinho, Rivelino and Tostao, winning the World Cup in 1970. The Brazilian was also assistant coach when Brazil won their fourth title in 1994 and was the first person to win a World Cup as a player and as a coach.

" CBF and Brazilian football mourn the death of one of its greatest legends", wrote the official profile of the body that manages Brazilian football, before decreeing "seven days of mourning in honor of the memory of its eternal champion ". In the hours that followed, Conmebol, the South American equivalent of UEFA, and all the clubs in Serie A and B of the Brasileirão mourned the death of one of the greatest champions in the history of the game.

In a statement on Instagram, his family described him as a "lifelong world champion".
