Kristian Shpendi missed a golden opportunity to make Cesena history today, after squandering a penalty that could have been decisive in pushing his team towards Serie A.
The Albanian striker has been the main protagonist of Cesena in this edition of Serie B with his goals, making the team a contender for promotion, after it qualified for the "play-off". There, the regulation placed it against Catanxaro, in the direct elimination match on the field of the latter and Shpendi had the opportunity to give his team the advantage at the start of the second half.
Cesena won the penalty and it was entrusted to the Albanian boy, who had the chance to change the fate of the duel. But his shot from the penalty spot was neutralized by the opposing goalkeeper, disappointing the player who was consoled for a long time by his teammates.
As if that weren't enough, a few minutes later Catanxaro scored the winning goal and the coach took Shpendi off the field, who was clearly suffering from the penalty spot error. The score of the match did not change in the following minutes and Catanxaro continued the race in the "play-off" for promotion to the elite of Italian football.
As the home team celebrated, Shpendi could not hold back his tears as he made his way down to the stands of his team's fans. He was consoled by his teammates and received applause from the Cesena supporters where he has become a true idol in the last two seasons.
