It's now official: John Heitinga is no longer Ajax coach. The Dutch club announced the news on their official website.
" Ajax has suspended John Heitinga with immediate effect ." The coach's contract was due to expire on June 30, 2027, but will now be terminated.
The same goes for assistant coach Marcel Kaiser.
Heitinga, who was only appointed last summer after leaving his role as assistant coach to Arne Slot at Liverpool, has struggled at the Johan Cruyff Arena, particularly in the Champions League where Ajax are bottom of the league table with four defeats in four games.
And despite their only defeat in the league, Ajax find themselves eight points behind leaders Feyenoord after 11 weeks, recording 5 wins and 5 draws.
The 3-0 defeat to Galatasaray at home on Wednesday appeared to be what brought about the club's immediate decision.
Ajax is looking for a new coach, in the meantime, Fred Grim will take over Heitinga's duties.
The most talked about name is that of Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman is expected to return once again to the big team, which he has managed before. With Ajax, ten Hag won the championship title and sent the "archers" to the semi-finals of the Champions League.
