The serious incident in Ecuador, where footballer Mario Pineida was killed in a roadside attack, has shocked sports opinion in this country and beyond.
All the players of Barcelona Guayaquil, the club where the 33-year-old player belonged, are considering leaving after this event in which his wife was also killed. One of them is a well-known name in European football, striker Felipe Caicedo.
The 37-year-old player, born and raised in Guayaquil, thought he would spend a few more years at his hometown club, but this event has caused the former footballer of famous clubs such as Manchester City, Sporting, Lazio and Inter to decide to end his career.
"The most likely thing is that I will retire. I don't think I will continue anymore. Mario Pineida's death has deeply affected me and I don't want to know anything about football anymore. I will not stay at this club anymore. When I decided to come, I thought with my heart and not with my head. If I thought with my head, I definitely wouldn't come," said the footballer, revealing his decision.
