A small Swedish village, Hallevik, with just 1,485 inhabitants, is making football history. Their club, Mjalbi AIF, has secured a place in European competitions for the 2026-2027 season and is fighting to win the Swedish championship for the first time in history.
With five rounds remaining, Mjalbi has an 11-point lead over Hammarby, making the first title in the club's history all but certain. This success is even more remarkable when considering the club's roots. Until a few years ago, Mjalbi played in the lower Swedish leagues. From the fourth division to the Swedish top flight in just a few years, the club has made a rapid and steady climb.
From 2015 to 2018, Mjalbi was in the third division, then won promotion for two consecutive seasons and has been playing in the Swedish top flight ever since. In the last six years, the club has continuously improved its ranking, moving from fifth to tenth place.
According to 'Transfermarkt', Mjalbi is ranked as the ninth most valuable team in Sweden, with a player value of 15.7 million euros, far behind traditional clubs such as Malmo (40 million), Hammarby (30+ million), Djurgarden (25 million) and Elfsborg, AIK and Haken (20+ million).
However, this season has shown that Mjalbi is ready to change the hierarchy of Swedish football and become the country's biggest surprise.
